Happy New Year from Los Yungas
They call it the most dangerous road in the world. Hey, only a couple dozen buses go over the steep edge every year, so maybe it is an exaggeration. And as long as you don’t look out the window the thousand foot precipice and the just-less-than-a-car-width road won’t bother you at all.
Happy New Year from Los Yungas! From the snow-covered mountains of La Paz to a steamy jungle in three hours. We did it by bus. The more valiant do it by mountain bike, just a bad handbrake cable away from, well, not your favourite tourist experience.

Happy New Year Jim to you and your family. Ahhh memories of the World's Most Dangerous Road. Reaching Coroico, which I have to say is one of the most beautiful, relaxing places I have ever been to. Waking up in the morning to clouds hovering over the trees, sipping on a beer. Just doesn't get any better than that. I definitely will go back one day.
Here in Syracuse, NY we always bring in a cold NYear. The start of two months of cold. Cold you wouldn't survive out in.
No dangerous roads around here that I know of. We have no war and no cliffs that we don't, shouldn't, leave unprotected with guide rail. I should know I work for the DOT designing roads.
Ok, how about, say what would Evo do if the US became a dictatorship, under George Bush, that wanted to change regimes in every country from Cuba to Iran and were gonna do it, what would Evo do then?
An old man asked me to take a sip of beer for him tonight. So here it is.

Nothing worse than a guy trying to pass as a Bolivian expert and not being able to get even the article right!
Actually, I believe it is one of those words that can pass for either feminine or masculine, depending on grammatical taste. Perhaps a Spanish grammar teacher can instruct us, should one read the Blog.
However, do keep looking for errors in the Blog's Spanish. I am sure if you find one it will prove, clearly and indisputably, that Evo Morales was sent by Satan and that the Bolivian elite has done a masterful job of running the country these past three decades.
Let´s say...these past 180 years...
In Bolivia, "LOS Yungas" is right, LA and LAS are simply wrong here; however in Argentina they call "LAS Yungas" to a similar kind of jungle...Anyway, in Bolivia we use it to name an specific place...so, even if the the word is not spanish we should say "LOS". :)

i'm intrigued by your choice of words... "if"... "became"...
for some intents and purposes, yes we are a republic. for others, i.e. who chooses regime change where... it appears that bush wants much of it, and gets what he wants.
In Bolivia it is common to mix up the masculine and feminine. Like Jim, for many Bolivians Spanish is their second language. Give Jim a break on this one and save your ranting for more important stuff.
Not much going on in the blog the last couple of days. Grammar seems to be the major concern. Well, I for one, could use some enlightenment. (Go ahead Villain, take the shot.) One of the major solutions (for all parties, not just MAS) seems to be a constitutional assembly. If I understand correctly, MAS’s great desire appears to be to produce a constitution that’s more just to the indigenous. I’ve recently downloaded (again) and am going through (again) the constitution of Bolivia (written I think in 1967, modified in 1994, 2002, 2004, and 2005). So what exactly should I be looking at that so desperately needs changing? I’ve got some of my own ideas, but perhaps a couple of you have been in on pre-constitutional assembly meetings…
The radio interview was interesting. J. Sachs was very critical of past US maneuvers and hopeful that Bolivia will be able to better harness the winnings of the sale of their natural resources to benefit so many of those left out of the economy in the past.
Centellas I found was again rehashing the "Santa Cruz-Media Luna Seccession" possibility and I just don't see unanimity at all on that subject in the Eastern Lowlands of Bolivia. Certainly not when MAS got over 30% of the vote in Santa Cruz alone.
Finally, Schultz dotted the i's and crossed the t's when he spoke of pple just being fed up with being overcharged and underserved regarding Bechtel's incursion in Cochabamba.
I was unhappy that none of the speakers set the host straight as to the Coca leaf not being a drug. The guy was comparing coca to ganja in Jamaica. Chewing coca or having a matecito (tea) from the leaves just won't get you high. It is more akin to eating grapes won't get you drunk but just because there are many wino's and winnettes around the globe, we don't see for a call to eradicate grapes.
