Copied below is an article wherein students protested their recruitment as a Cochabamba version of Santa Cruz's neo-fascist hooligans "Union Civica Juvenil".
If you go to youtube.com, and search under the phrase "autonomia carajo" you can see the white hooligans engaging in the acts described by the media as occuring now which includes whipping and hitting the brown-skinned elderly and solitary pedestrians with heavy sticks and whips. To understand the inhumanity of said delinquents read bolivialibre's unwarranted attacks against and efforts to chill Jim's free speech. Sometimes they are posted under his name and sometimes under annonymous. They are discernable by their incoherent and hate-filled nature, as well as their fractured english. All evidence of why hooligns like him are unemployable despite being members of the dominant class, aside from their lack of key interpersonal skills neeeded if one is to seek a dialogue and a nonconfrontaional resolution to issues.

(ABI).-La Federación de Estudiantes de Secundaria de Quillacollo denunció esta tarde que la Prefectura de Cochabamba, encabezada por Manfred Reyes Villa, está empeñada en organizar una organización similar a la Unión Juvenil Cruceñista, invirtiendo para ello importantes cantidades de dinero.
El representante de la FES-Quillacollo, Hiber León, declaró a radio Patria Nueva que la Prefectura promovió, semanas atrás, un encuentro para estructurar una organización similar a la Unión Juvenil Cruceñista que opera bajo el patrocinio del Comité Pro Santa Cruz y que ha protagonizado una serie de hechos de violencia contra edificios públicos y agresiones a periodistas, indígenas e incluso a representantes de derechos humanos.
León detalló que los estudiantes y juventudes de Cochabamba fueron convocados y acudieron para averiguar de qué se trataba dicho llamado. En la oportunidad pudieron constatar que se trataba de una reunión organizada por la Prefectura de Cochabamba.
“Fuimos testigos de este hecho. Nos llamaron diciendo que se iba a organizar una agrupación juvenil y que iba a haber una buena cantidad de dinero. Fuimos a ver qué había escondido ahí y vimos que la reunión estaba organizada por la Prefectura”, declaró el representante de la FES.
“En esa oportunidad las juventudes y estudiantes de Cochabamba se opusieron a la organización de una Unión Juvenil Cochabambina y se logró dejar en suspenso dicha organización hasta una próxima reunión prevista para febrero”, reveló.
“Veremos qué sucede. Pero los estudiantes de secundaria nos oponemos y nos estamos organizando para hacer frente a esa organización que promueve la Prefectura”, dijo el dirigente estudiantil para luego hacer un llamado al diálogo para restablecer la calma en la capital cochabambina.
“Queremos que el Prefecto y a los movimientos sociales abran el diálogo para evitar mayores hechos de violencia”, señaló León.
El lunes, tras una movilización de varias organizaciones sociales que exigen la renuncia del prefecto Reyes Villa, se registraron hechos de violencia que derivaron en la quema del edificio de la Prefectura de Cochabamba.

by the way i wish there were cameras filming when those policemen where found mutilated a few years ago... that video is a few people, who do not represent the whole of santa cruz, and it is something that has happened in the past paros mainly and was regretted by vast majority of the population of santa cruz, while chicotazos and beating is something suffered every single day by women and children in different communities... there is even an article in the BBC about it... of course, they are european and kind of romantized it.

I hope to God this isn't the beginning of the civil war so many have feared for the last few years.
As for this forum, I am disappointed to see over the past few days that, just when thing have become so heated in Bolivia and civil discourse on difficult issues is at such a premium, a few people have once again begun to dominate these comment threads with personal attacks and silliness.
Personally, I see here (from the Democracy Center) some very honest reporting. And, having lived through the Water War and other conflicts over the years and seen Jim's reporting at those times, and compared it to the reporting in both the Bolivian and international press, I know that Jim has been one of the most trustworthy sources available, and I continue to trust him. (Highly predictable commenters will call me pitifully naive, but I hope I can offer something constructive by attesting to the truth and good insight typically offered in this blog).
On the occasions when I have a perspective different from Jim's, I don't find it difficult to identify his opinion as such and freely disagree with it. In contrast to some commenters, I trust other readers to do the same, so I don't feel the need to smear the writer. Along with several more-constructive commenters, I imagine the hundreds of readers here who rarely comment at all feel similarly.
I could offer my own take on what's happening today, but I think the most helpful thing I can do right now, from Seattle, is pray for peace with justice. I don't know quite what happens to such prayers, but I am quite confident they are more helpful than the clutter of self-important pissiness that so dominates these spaces of the "blogosphere."
And now, fully aware of the irony of a comment this long decrying those who would dominate this space, I bid you all - especially those in Cochabamba - a restful night.

I am not sure if anyone realized, but the confrontation taking place in Cocha is not transcending the boundaries of the country. CNN and other major agencies have shown no report of the incidents. In essence, bloging sites like this one are some of the only bridges of communication to the world.
Now, let me start by stating that I usually don’t participate on this kind of activities (posting blogs), but as read the comments posted on this wall, I cant help think how the Bolivian problem is reflected on our prose.
In simpler words, I see on this wall an irresponsible abuse of force. As the only bridge of information, this wall has let itself be abused by exaggerated and many times fictitious information. Most of the information posted is most suited to comfort our black and white view of the world, where there is always a definite enemy conspirating to annihilate us and our way of life (historically or in the present). Its exactly this kind of irresponsible behavior that motivates masses of ill informed Bolivians to raise war against their Nabors, their country brothers. In the west: its the rich camba elite that is set to destroy their contra part in the west. On the east: its the ignorant Indians that are plotting ways to nationalize the houses we have just finished paying with our hard works pay.
FOR A SECOND THINK ABOUT THE TRUTH I BRING TO THE TABLE, before you dismiss my words: Is this blog site contributing to this lie (not mattering which side it supports)?
In conclusion, as always, the truth lays on a middle ground. If this wall continues to post exaggerated information, it is not only a violation to the true events that happen today in Bolivia. IT is also, and more dangerously, an abuse of the virtue provided by democracy--freedom of thought and of press.
Are we willing to risk this virtue?
Are we part of the problem or of the solution?
